The standard Galaxy S26 has a 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen that refreshes up to 120 times a second (120Hz), so scrolling looks smooth, and it slows down when the image is still to save battery. At 167g and 7.2mm thick it is comfortable to carry. The UK model uses Samsung's Exynos 2600 chip with 12GB of memory (RAM). Its three rear cameras are a 50MP main, a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a separate lens that brings subjects three times closer without losing detail. Samsung promises seven years of security updates. Charging is slower than the Plus and Ultra: up to 55% in about 30 minutes with a 25W adapter. The key is whether these extras solve a problem with your current phone.

The 3x telephoto adds a useful middle-distance option. Try photos at the distance you use most, especially indoors; camera flexibility is not guaranteed sharpness in every situation.

Open the keyboard and enlarge the text before judging it. The 6.3-inch body may be easier to hold, but writing still needs to be comfortable for your eyes.

Screen and size
The 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen lights each pixel itself for deep blacks and rich colour. Its adaptive refresh rate runs from 1Hz to 120Hz: fast when you scroll so movement looks smooth, and slow when the picture is still to save battery. Samsung also lists Vision Booster, its feature for keeping the screen readable in bright light. At 167g and 7.2mm it is the most manageable S26 model.
Cameras
The 50MP main camera handles most photos and also offers a 2x optical-quality zoom, which Samsung lists as a main-camera feature rather than a separate lens. The 12MP ultrawide fits in groups and rooms. The 10MP telephoto has 3x optical zoom, a separate lens that keeps detail when you frame a face or a stage from a distance. The 12MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.
Battery and charging
The standard S26 has a 4,300mAh battery; mAh (milliamp-hours) measures how much charge it holds. Samsung quotes up to 55% charge in about 30 minutes with a 25W adapter, and the S26+ and Ultra have their own, different charging figures. It also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 on a wireless pad, and Wireless PowerShare, which lets the phone share its battery with compatible devices placed on its back.
Look past the shared family name
Compare the exact model in each retailer listing. A feature shown on an Ultra is not automatically included on the standard phone, and a larger storage version may change the price significantly. The standard S26 runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and gets seven years of security updates, which fix weaknesses that could let someone into your phone.
