The Tapo P110 is a small Wi-Fi plug that sits between a wall socket and an appliance. From the Tapo app you can switch that appliance on or off, set a schedule or see how much electricity it has used. It connects to your ordinary 2.4GHz home Wi-Fi, the longer-range band most routers offer, so no separate hub is needed. It works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control. TP-Link rates it for up to 13A, 2,990W, which covers most household appliances. It is most helpful for lamps, fans and devices that start working as soon as power reaches them, but it cannot change the appliance's own settings.

Setup
Plug it in, add it in the Tapo app and connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Most routers broadcast 2.4GHz alongside 5GHz, and 2.4GHz reaches further through walls. The app uses plain controls and needs no extra hub, which makes this a manageable first smart-home product. It measures 51 x 72 x 40mm, so check it will not block the neighbouring socket.
Control
You can switch it on or off from the app, a schedule, a timer or an Alexa or Google Assistant voice command. Away mode turns a device on and off at different times so it looks as if someone is home. A physical power button still works when your phone is not nearby. TP-Link rates it for up to 13A and 2,990W.
Energy monitoring
The app records current and past electricity use for whatever is plugged in. That can show roughly how much an appliance costs to run, such as a fridge, heater or games console on standby. It is an estimate, not a replacement for a certified electricity meter, and the detail is clearest in the Tapo app rather than in voice assistants.
