What it gets right
- Low purchase price makes it easy to try without a major commitment
- Energy monitoring shows how much electricity the connected device uses
- No separate hub is required — it connects to normal 2.4GHz home internet connection
- Schedules, timers and away mode cover the most useful everyday jobs
The compromises
- Does not support Apple HomeKit or Matter
- Only switches mains power, so it cannot operate an appliance's own menu or buttons
- Energy information is clearest inside TP-Link's Tapo app rather than every linked assistant
Buy it—or leave it?
- You want a low-cost first smart-home device that does something genuinely useful
- You want to schedule a lamp, fan or other simple appliance
- Seeing an appliance's energy use would help you make better decisions
- You require Apple Home or Matter support
- The appliance must have a button pressed after power is restored
- You need to control detailed appliance settings rather than mains power alone
What it is actually like
Open any section for the detail behind our verdict.
01Setup
Plug it in, add it in the Tapo app and connect it to a 2.4GHz home internet connection network. The app uses plain controls and does not require an additional hub, making this a manageable first smart-home product.
02Control
The plug can switch on or off from the app, a schedule, a timer or a supported Alexa or Google Assistant voice command. A physical button still works when your phone is not nearby.
03Energy monitoring
The app records current and past electricity use. This can reveal how much an appliance costs to run, although it is an estimate rather than a replacement for a certified electricity meter.
Price and value
At around £10.59, the P110 is inexpensive even before multi-pack discounts. Energy monitoring makes it better value than a basic on-and-off plug when the prices are close.

Who will notice the difference?
A lamp while you are away
Use away mode or a schedule to turn a lamp on and off so the home does not remain dark every evening.
Stopping standby use
Schedule suitable devices to switch off overnight, then use the energy history to see whether the change made a worthwhile difference.
A hard-to-reach socket
Leave the plug in place behind furniture and control the connected device from the app or a voice assistant.
What else should you consider?
£10.59 · Newer Matter plugs offer broader platform support, but often cost more. The P110 remains a strong choice for Alexa or Google Home users who value simple setup and useful energy information over maximum compatibility.
