01Everyday use
Voice timers, reminders, weather, shopping lists and music are quick to reach. The adaptive screen changes what it shows depending on how close you are, which helps the screen remain readable across a room.
02Calls and cameras
The centred camera keeps video calls looking natural and its auto-framing can keep you in view. Compatible Ring and Alexa cameras can also appear on the screen, although advanced recording features may cost extra.
03Smart-home control
You can control supported lights, plugs, thermostats and cameras by voice or from the touchscreen. Its built-in smart-home support reduces the need for extra hubs with some devices, but compatibility should still be checked before buying.
Price and value
Amazon regularly discounts Echo devices, so £149.99 should be treated as the standard reference price rather than an amount you must always pay. It becomes a stronger buy during a meaningful promotion.

What else should you consider?
£149.99 · Smaller smart displays cost less but are harder to use for recipes and camera views. Larger models provide more screen space but require more room. The Echo Show 8 remains the most balanced size for most households already using Alexa.
