The Tapo C200 lets you open an app and look around a room without being at home. Its 1080p (Full HD) picture is clear enough for everyday questions, such as whether the dog has settled on the sofa. A motor lets it pan, or turn sideways, to cover a full circle and tilt up and down, all controlled from your phone. Infrared night vision shows the room in black and white up to 9 metres away in the dark, and a built-in microphone and speaker let you talk through it. Recordings can go on a microSD card of up to 512GB. Think of it as a way to see what is happening, rather than a promise to capture every small detail across a large space.

The camera needs its mains power adapter plugged in all the time, so there is no battery to charge.
