Our verdict

The Magic8 Pro is HONOR’s flagship phone, sold in the UK with 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage and a 6,270mAh battery. Some other countries get a larger 7,100mAh battery, so overseas battery results don’t apply to UK phones. Its 200MP zoom lens magnifies 3.7 times optically, and Digital Camera World found its night photos and stabilisation outstanding. On the UK-size battery, GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of 19 hours 7 minutes and a full charge in 40 minutes. The drawbacks are heavy-handed processing, weaker video and no charger in the box. Its UK launch RRP was £1,099.99; shop offers vary. We have not tested it ourselves: this review draws on HONOR’s UK specifications and reviews by Digital Camera World, GSMArena, TechRadar and Tom’s Guide.

Buy it if

  • You can find a suitable UK offer below the £1,099.99 launch RRP

Skip it if

  • You prefer natural-looking photos with little sharpening
  • You want a flat screen

Everyday use

Evenings out and night photos

Digital Camera World found night shots clean and detailed, even handheld on a moving boat. Tom’s Guide preferred the Pixel 10 Pro XL at night, so opinions differ.

Heavy days away from a charger

Digital Camera World, testing the 6,270mAh battery, got well over a full day of heavy shooting. Half an hour on HONOR’s charger took GSMArena’s phone to 81%.

Close-ups and distant subjects

The zoom lens doubles as a macro camera. Digital Camera World found close-ups very sharp, though digital sharpening is heavy and zoom beyond 30x looks AI-generated.

The details, in plain English

Cameras

The rear cameras are a 50MP main, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 200MP 3.7x zoom. Digital Camera World praised night shots, stabilisation and zoom up to about 10x, but found processing aggressive, with over-sharpening and flat HDR. TechRadar also found processing can smudge fine edges when zoomed in. Tom’s Guide liked daytime photos but found zoom below par and selfies exaggerated. HONOR advertises 200x digital zoom, which needs a software update and is far beyond the lens’s optical reach.

Battery and charging

UK phones have a 6,270mAh silicon-carbon battery. GSMArena tested this European version and measured an Active Use Score of 19 hours 7 minutes. Digital Camera World, also on 6,270mAh, got well over a full day of heavy shooting. TechRadar and Tom’s Guide tested the overseas 7,100mAh version, so their battery results are not quoted here. HONOR’s 100W charger took GSMArena’s phone to 81% in 30 minutes; a 67W USB-C PD charger reached 76%. Wireless charging reaches 80W with HONOR’s own charger.

Video

Digital Camera World called video the biggest missed opportunity, finding colours washed out, HDR flat and low-light video weaker than photos. It also found 4K at 120 frames per second isn’t available in Pro mode and can’t be combined with HDR. TechRadar was more positive, praising a Stage mode for concerts. Anyone who films a lot should look at samples before buying.

Screen and design

The 6.71-inch OLED screen refreshes up to 120Hz, and HONOR claims a 6,000-nit HDR peak rather than full-screen sustained brightness. TechRadar found it bright in harsh sunlight, although it and Digital Camera World disliked the curved edges. Digital Camera World liked the brushed metal frame but found the camera island attracts fingerprints. Published weight figures differ between the current UK manufacturer data and the reviews, so we do not use weight as a buying claim. The IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings cover specified dust and water test conditions, not every real-world exposure.

Performance and software

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 handled demanding games well for TechRadar; Tom’s Guide found it slightly behind the OnePlus 15 in benchmarks. These findings concern their tested configurations. MagicOS 10 launched on Android 16. Tom’s Guide and TechRadar report seven years of updates, and HONOR’s current UK bulletin lists monthly security updates, but we have not established a precise primary UK end date. We have not checked software installed on a newly purchased UK unit.

Strengths and drawbacks

What it does well

  • Outstanding night photos and stabilisation, according to Digital Camera World
  • 200MP zoom lens with 3.7x optical magnification; Digital Camera World found results excellent up to about 230mm
  • Long battery life on the UK-size battery: GSMArena measured an Active Use Score of 19 hours 7 minutes
  • Very fast charging: GSMArena reached 81% in 30 minutes and full in 40 minutes with HONOR’s charger
  • IP68, IP69 and IP69K dust and water protection

What to watch out for

  • Video is the weak spot: Digital Camera World found it washed out, with odd limits on 4K at 120 frames per second
  • Aggressive sharpening and processing, noted by Digital Camera World and TechRadar
  • No charger in the box
  • Reviewers disagree on zoom: Tom’s Guide found it below par for a flagship
  • Curved screen and the touch-sensitive AI button didn’t win reviewers over

Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL won Tom’s Guide’s night-photo comparison, while Digital Camera World found the Pixel more consistent for AI editing but weaker on battery. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is another Android flagship to consider; TechRadar found the HONOR charges faster by wire. The OnePlus 15 has a larger 7,300mAh battery, according to TechRadar, which suggested it for European buyers. We have not tested these phones side by side.
