The iPhone 17e starts with 256GB of storage, enough for years of photographs and apps without constant clearing. It has Apple's A19 chip, a 6.1-inch OLED screen (Super Retina XDR) with up to 1,200 nits of peak HDR brightness, and a single 48MP Fusion main camera. Apple says that camera also gives a 2x optical-quality view, but it has no second lens to widen a tight group shot or bring a distant subject closer. The phone is IP68 rated for dust and water. The harder question at £599 is whether one camera and a less fluid screen still feel acceptable. The checked 256GB price is £599; no cheaper size is used to improve the value judgement.

The 48MP main camera is good for family shots, and the 2x view helps a little with distance. In a cramped room there is no wider lens to fit everyone in, so step back or choose a phone with an ultrawide camera.

Confirm the exact 256GB version and final basket price. A 512GB model exists, and a different size or storage allowance is a different value decision.

Wired charging over USB-C reaches about 50% in around 30 minutes with a 20W or stronger adapter, and wireless charging via MagSafe and Qi2 runs at up to 15W. Faster charging and premium screen features are reserved for dearer iPhones.

The phone has an IP68 rating, so it is protected against dust and water to a depth of 6 metres for 30 minutes, and Apple's Ceramic Shield 2 front glass is said by Apple to have 3x better scratch resistance.
