Our verdict
The TCL C6K is a 65-inch TV with a Mini LED backlight and a 4K screen that can refresh at 144Hz. Mini LED uses many small lights behind the screen that can be dimmed in groups, so bright objects stand out against darker areas of a film. A 144Hz refresh rate means the screen can update up to 144 times a second, which only helps with compatible sources such as a gaming PC; a console or normal TV programme sends fewer frames. TCL's C6K-UK page lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG, which are ways of storing bright and dark detail. It runs Google TV, so streaming apps are built in and you do not need a separate box. The 65-inch model was £679 at our 1 August 2026 check and £649 from AO via Amazon UK on 15 October 2026.

Watching films in a darker room
Mini LED can adjust different areas of the backlight, helping bright objects stand out against a dark background. Check a film with subtitles and small bright objects in a dark scene, because the technology name alone does not tell you how much glow you will see.
Gaming with a compatible source
TCL lists native 4K 144Hz support. Compatible PC games can use that headroom; a console or programme sending fewer frames cannot. Check the input and game mode you will use rather than judging on the biggest number.
Streaming without extra boxes
Search for a programme and move between your usual services in Google TV. Subscription costs are separate from buying the TV, so keep the services you already pay for in mind.

Mini LED picture
Mini LED TVs use many small LEDs behind the screen, grouped into dimming zones that turn brighter or darker to match the picture. That gives better contrast than a standard LED TV, with brighter highlights and darker backgrounds. It is not the same as OLED, and some glow around bright objects in dark scenes is possible. TCL's page lists Mini LED technology, but check the number of dimming zones on the 65-inch model itself.
144Hz and gaming
TCL lists native 4K 144Hz and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 4K 144Hz. Refresh rate is how many times the screen updates each second; VRR matches it to the game's frame rate to reduce tearing. A gaming PC can use up to 144Hz. PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles top out at 120Hz, so they will not use it all. The page mentions HDMI 2.1, but we cannot confirm how many ports offer it.
HDR formats and sound
HDR (high dynamic range) lets bright and dark parts of a scene keep detail together. TCL's C6K-UK page lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG (used for some live broadcasts), so most streaming and disc formats are covered. TCL also lists an ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi system with Dolby Atmos support, which includes a dedicated bass speaker. The page does not give a speaker wattage, so a soundbar may still be worth adding.
