01Films and dark scenes
RTINGS found strong contrast and an even-looking dark screen, which helps films retain depth when the lights are lowered. Small bright objects can still create a faint glow around them because the television controls areas of light rather than every dot separately. Most scenes look convincing, but a premium film-focused screen remains more precise.
02Daytime television
The QN80H becomes bright enough to fight a reasonable amount of room light. Its reflection handling is only average, however, so a window opposite the screen can remain distracting. It is suitable for an ordinary family room, but not the best choice for severe glare.
03Sport and movement
Fast movement is the main picture weakness. A moving football, racing car or game character can lose clarity and appear blurred. The television offers settings that make films and programmes look smoother, but they cannot restore all of the lost detail in rapid action.
04Games
The television responds quickly and supports the smoothest output from current consoles on all four main connections. That makes a multi-console setup easy. The blur in fast movement remains visible in some action games, so keen competitive players should compare it with a faster-looking alternative.
05Seats, sound and setup
The best view is close to the centre; colour and brightness fade as somebody moves far to the side. The stand can be positioned more narrowly for smaller furniture. Built-in speakers are adequate for speech and normal programmes, while films benefit from a soundbar.
