The Samsung is less likely to show a clear reflection of a window, lamp or person during daytime viewing. The LG remains very bright, but its glossier screen is better suited to a room where direct reflections can be controlled.

These televisions are regularly discounted, so the current gap matters more than their launch prices. If one is several hundred pounds cheaper, that saving is likely to matter more than the relatively small difference in peak brightness.

Both can accommodate several modern consoles or a gaming PC without repeatedly swapping cables. Games respond quickly and supported titles can look smoother, so there is no compelling reason to choose between them on gaming features alone.

If Dolby Vision support and the higher measured peak brightness matter more, the G5 is the stronger fit — What Hi-Fi?'s re-tested verdict called it 'a stunning television and a surprising leap forward for OLED TV technology' once its early Dolby Vision software issues were fixed. Compare current retailer prices before deciding because both models have moved below their launch prices.
