TechRadar lists it as a 5.0.2 system: five main channels, no built-in subwoofer (the "0"), and two up-firing speakers that bounce sound off the ceiling for height. That suits Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, film sound formats that place effects above and around you. TechRadar found dialogue crisp and well separated, but bass that does not go low or loud enough for a cinematic feel. No subwoofer is included; Sony's Theatre Sub 7 is sold separately. It connects by HDMI eARC and has an HDMI input with passthrough. On 1 August 2026, the matched UK price was £599 for the Standard retail package.

Speakers and channels
There are nine speakers inside the bar. TechRadar describes it as 5.0.2: five channels across the front and sides, no subwoofer, and two up-firing speakers that angle sound up to your ceiling so it seems to come from above. Side-firing speakers push sound towards the walls to widen it. Sony quotes 405W of power, which is a maximum figure rather than a guide to quality. Room shape and TV placement affect how convincing the surround effect is.
Films and dialogue
It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, the two main formats that give films a sense of height and space. TechRadar found mids and highs clear and dialogue crisp, which helps with dramas and news. It was less convinced by the surround effect: bullet impacts and whispered voices were not always placed accurately around the room.
Bass and the optional subwoofer
There is no subwoofer in the box. TechRadar found the bar alone did not go low or loud enough for a cinematic experience, so action films lack rumble. Sony's Theatre Sub 7 is sold separately and adds that deep bass, but also extra cost and a box on the floor. There is no equaliser or bass and treble control to tune the sound yourself.
Connections and set-up
HDMI eARC, the HDMI connection that sends full-quality sound from your TV, links it to the TV. A second HDMI input with passthrough lets you plug in a console or streaming box and send its picture on to the TV. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but no hi-res Bluetooth codecs. Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Mapping measures your room during set-up to tune the effect. There are no on-screen menus or front display.
