Switching between iPhone, iPad and Mac, checking battery levels and finding a lost bud with Find My all work without extra setup. Active noise cancellation (ANC) uses microphones to cancel steady outside sound. Apple rates the earbuds at up to 8 hours with ANC on, and up to 24 hours in total using the case. Five ear-tip sizes, from XXS to L, help you get a good seal. At £219 they suit iPhone owners best.

Ease of use
Pairing, battery status, device switching and locating the case are built into Apple devices. Touch controls on the earbuds handle playback, and Siri is available by voice. That saves a lot of fiddling in menus, which is welcome if you do not enjoy setting up gadgets. On Android the earbuds still play music and take calls, but the experience is much less complete because much of this depends on Apple software.
Noise cancelling and sound
Apple offers Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode (which lets outside sound in so you can hear announcements) and Adaptive Audio, which adjusts between the two. Noise cancelling is strong for true wireless earbuds and works best on steady rumble. Voices and sudden sounds are reduced less completely. Music is clear and balanced. Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking is there if you want it but is optional.
Fit and battery
A good seal matters because it improves both bass and noise cancelling. Five ear-tip sizes (XXS, XS, S, M, L) give you more chance of one that suits. Apple rates up to 8 hours of listening with ANC on, or 6.5 hours if you use heart rate sensing during workouts. The case adds up to 24 hours in total, and five minutes in the case gives roughly one hour of listening. That is fine for a commute but short for a long flight.
Case, charging and durability
The MagSafe case charges from a MagSafe charger, an Apple Watch charger, any Qi-certified wireless charger or a USB-C cable. Both earbuds and case are IP57 rated, so they resist dust, sweat and water. The case also has a speaker and Ultra Wideband chip to help Find My guide you to it. Apple also lists hearing test and hearing aid features, which you should check for availability where you live.
