STEP 5
Turn backup on
Turn on Back Up This iPad if its switch is off.
The main backup switch is grey before it is turned on.

STEP 6
Check mobile-data use
If Back Up Over Mobile Data appears, leave it off to keep backups on Wi-Fi. Skip this check if your iPad does not have this option.
This cellular iPad example has mobile-data backup on. Turn it off if you do not want backups using your data allowance.

STEP 7
Start the backup
Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to Wi-Fi while it runs, then check for a recent successful-backup date and time.
This example iPad has Wi-Fi off and mobile data on. Connect your own iPad to Wi-Fi first. A completed backup is not pictured.

IF SOMETHING LOOKS DIFFERENT
A little help along the way.
Your menus may look different after an update. Look for the same control name and take your time.
I cannot find that option+
Check that this guide covers your device and software. If the names do not match, use the manufacturer’s instructions linked below for your model.
I need to go back a step+
Use Previous step or select a step number above. This changes the guide only; it does not undo anything on your device.
Are these pictures of my device?+
They are example screens showing exactly where to tap. Your names, apps, wallpaper and layout may look a little different, but the options you need are the same. Some pictures show what you should see after a step.
