STEP 1
Open App Store
Tap the blue App Store icon. Its position may be different on your Home Screen.
Look for the white A made from three strokes.

STEP 2
Tap Search
Tap the magnifying glass at the bottom right of App Store.
The featured apps are examples. You do not need to open or download them.

STEP 3
Enter the app name
Tap the search field at the bottom, then type the name of the app you want.
The keyboard appears after you tap this field.

STEP 4
Run the search
Check the name you have typed. Tap the blue Search key on the keyboard.
Your app name will replace Chess. This key looks like a magnifying glass.

STEP 5
Find the right result
Find your app and tap its name to open the full app page. Check who made it; the first result may be an advert.
The highlighted result is only an example. Match the app name and developer you intended to find.

STEP 6
Check the app and download
Check the app name and developer again. Tap Get for a free download, then follow your iPhone’s confirmation prompt. If a price appears instead, tapping it starts a purchase.
Get means no upfront download price; in-app purchases or subscriptions may still cost money. A cloud symbol can replace Get for an app you downloaded before.

STEP 7
Open your new app
Wait for the download to finish. When the button changes to Open, tap it to start using the app.
Your download confirmation may use Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple Account password. That confirmation screen is not pictured here.

IF SOMETHING LOOKS DIFFERENT
A little help along the way.
Your menus may look different after an update. Look for the same control name and take your time.
I cannot find that option+
Check that this guide covers your device and software. If the names do not match, use the manufacturer’s instructions linked below for your model.
I need to go back a step+
Use Previous step or select a step number above. This changes the guide only; it does not undo anything on your device.
Are these pictures of my device?+
They are example screens showing exactly where to tap. Your names, apps, wallpaper and layout may look a little different, but the options you need are the same. Some pictures show what you should see after a step.
